Opening of the 100th Negosyo Center
On September 30, 2015, the Department of Trade and Industry proudly opened the 100th Negosyo Center in the municipality of San Jose, Dinagat Island. DTI Secretary Gregory L. Domingo remarked, “I am very happy to announce that we have opened 100 Negosyo Centers across the Philippines thus far; this is very much in line with the DTI’s mission to support the growth and development of our MSMEs, which is what we pushed for during the last APEC SME Ministerial Meetings in Iloilo.”
In accordance with RA 10644, or the “Go Negosyo Act,” the DTI was designated as the lead agency for the establishment of Negosyo Centers in all provinces, cities, and municipalities of the Philippines, to promote ease of doing business and facilitate access to services for MSMEs within its jurisdiction. Towards this, the DTI has worked closely with other government agencies – particularly the local government units – and the private sector, to provide holistic services to MSMEs wherever possible.
Of the 100 Negosyo Centers currently established, 49 are located in or adjacent to existing DTI regional or provincial offices, while 45 are located in LGU facilities / buildings. The remaining 6 are housed in either colleges, malls, or NGO centers. “Supporting our MSMEs does not rest with one agency alone,” commented DTI Undersecretary Zenaida C. Maglaya, “It must be a collective effort, an ongoing public-private partnership, towards a more inclusive economy and truly inclusive growth.” Of the 129 cities in the country, 48 have established Negosyo Centers.
Negosyo Centers are designed to provide 3 main types of services: (1) Business Registration Facilitation; (2) Business Advisory; and (3) Business Information, Advocacy, and Promotion. Depending on the size of the city, province, or municipality; the level of economic activity in that area; as well as the resources available, such as manpower and office space, Negosyo Centers may vary in terms of the range of services offered – so far, there are 52 Full Service NCs, 31 Advanced NCs, and 17 Basic NCs.
In 2015, Negosyo Centers have assisted 35,604 clients as of August 31, 2015. The number of MSMEs assisted every month has been steadily on the rise, reaching over 11,000 business assisted in August alone. “The Negosyo Center was created as a platform to provide direct assistance to micro, small, and medium enterprises,” said Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, author of the Go Negosyo Act, “We thank the DTI and all our LGU partners for their initiative, and look forward to the tens of thousands of entrepreneurs whose progress will surely be supported by the growing number of Negosyo Centers nationwide.” (END)
